The Immediate Area
The thriving village of le Champ St Pere is 3.5kms away, with boulangerie, “Shopi” supermarket, cheap fuel, banks, bars and a good restaurant and there is a weekly market in the church square.

The river Yon Nature Reserve is a great place for a stroll or picnic and it and the surrounding commune provide nearly 39kms of walks with the GR 364 long-distance cycle and rambler path passing within 300m of the house.

The Sea
The coast, with some of the best uncrowded beaches in Western Europe is less than half an hour way, where you can sail, sand-yacht, wind-surf or just lie there. There is fishing to be had from various ports along the coast and inland on the many lakes.

Farther afield
Road communications are excellent and the lively capital of the Vendee, La Roche sur Yon is less than 30minutes away being equi-distant to the north from Cardinal Richelieu’s power base (of Three Musketeers fame) at Lucon to the south. A visit to La Rochelle and the fabulous Ile de Re is a must as is a tranquil day spent among the waterways and wildlife of the Marais Poitevin or “Green Venice”.

For children young and old the Puy du Fou theme park (see Links for details of that an many other sites of interest) is a gentle hour’s drive away and even closer the Indian Forest at Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits comes highly recommended.

There are several full-sized golf courses within easy reach, the nearest being at Nesmy which also has a fully-working old style pottery.

There is horse-riding at various levels and the Vendee caters for virtually any sport or pastime including a prehistoric visitor centre near Avrille and the “Fiefs Vendeen” wine route which runs nearby.
